ATM WIN AS JOHOR HELD BY KEDAH

Armed Forces were back on track in their quest to make the last four of the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup 2011 when they defeated Terengganu 2-0 at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this morning.

And in the top of the table Group A match, Johor fought back to draw against Kedah in a match that the northerners should have won.

Also registering wins were PDRM who defeated Seri Titiwangsa 6-0 in another Group A match while KL Sukma defeated the young Setia Cougar 5-0 in a Group C match.

Terengganu really have themselves to blame for the defeat as they squandered many chances especially in the final 15 minutes of the match.

That coupled with loose marking enabled Armed Forces to score through Izzuin Ismail in the 20th minute and Siti Rahmah made sure of the three points with a second goal in the 45th minute.

PDRM took only a minute to open scoring via Norhafizah Razali. Ad they doubled their advantage when Norhafizah found the mark in the 25th minute.
Angela Kais scored in the 42nd minute to make it 3-0 before Che Inan Melati Che Ibrahim scored the fourth in the 49th minute.

Norhafizah then went on to add two more goals by scoring in the 50th and 67th minutes for an emphatic 6-0 win for PDRM.

The match between Johor and Kedah was interesting to say the least as it was Johor who dominated the early proceedings.

But Kedah broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through skipper Nurul Nabihah. But Johor found the equaliser in the 45th minute a goal by Hanis Nadiah Onn.

Kedah could have snatched the winner late in the game when Nurul Ain Mansur was presented with a 1 to 1 chance with Johor keeper Siti Norhafizah but fluffed the attempt.

Meanwhile KL Sukma played at half pace but still did enough to defeat their young Setia Cougar, a team of players who are participating thanks to contributions from some hockey loving parents.

Nuraini Ahmad put KL Sukma ahead in the 18th minute from a penalty corner before Zuhaili Zakaria (24th and 38th minutes) and Siti Norihan Zulkifli ( 40th and 47th minutes) scored to give the city side a 5-0 win.

PAHANG MARCH ON IN STYLE

Pahang asserted their superiority over Penang when they trashed the islanders 6-1 in the 5th Raja Noora Ashikin Cup at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil this evening.

It was their second successive win having accounted for Armed Forces 1-0 in their opening match on Sunday.

And they are odds on favourites to advance into the last four from Group B that also comprises of Terengganu, Armed Forces and SMK Puteri.

However they will have to overcome Terengganu who registered an emphatic 10-0 win over SMK Puteri in a match played in the morning.

While Pahang have an easy task against SMK Puteri tomorrow (Tuesday), Terengganu can expect a tough encounter against ATM. And if both Pahang and Terengganu both register wins, then their match on Wednesday could well determine which team qualifies for the semis slated for Friday.

Pahang got their goals off Noralina Ali (16th), Khadijah Atirah (22nd), Noorain Arshad (23rd), Norbini Hashim (23rd), Siti Shahidah Saad (40th) and Fazilla Slyvester Silin (44th). The Penang goal was scored by Noor Fariza Noor (21st).

In another match, a solitary strike by Nurul Safiqah in the 60th minute off a penalty corner was enough to give Selangor a 1-0 win over Malacca in a Group C match.
